Campaign Story

Hello, my name is Amanda and my partner’s name is Taylor. We have been together for four years, and since the day we met, we shared our strong desires to become parents. As a part of the LGBTQ community we knew that we would need the help of fertility specialists to have a family, so we made an appointment at our local clinic to start our journey. This day was supposed to be full of happiness and butterflies for us, however, it has turned out to be a rollercoaster of events full of ups and downs.

First I would like to shar our story with some background information. Six years ago, Taylor found herself in the emergency room with severe abdominal pain. At that time, Taylor learned that she had a dermoid cyst which had to be urgently removed surgically. During the surgery doctors unfortunately had to remove her right ovary with cyst. Since that time Taylor has been adament about following with her OB/GYN to monitor her remaining ovary, and up until our first appointment with our reproductive endocrinologist, everything had been ok. At our initial consultation with our local fertility clinic, a transvaginal ultrasound revealed another mass cyst on Taylor’s remaining ovary. Since that time Taylor underwent a MRI which helped to verify the dermoid cyst she now has on her remaining ovary.

We feel like time is slipping away as we strive to retrieve Taylor’s eggs and preserve embryos. Despite having health insurance, our attempts at IVF treatment have been denied through insurance, even with a compelling medical necessity letter from our reproductive endocrinologist. Financially, we’re not in a position to afford an IVF cycle, and we’re tirelessly exploring every available avenue to realize our dream of parenthood.
